Students this week continue to build their listening and reading comprehension skills. We read Buenas noches, gorila again and began work with the unit called El pea dorado y el gate negro. Students were assigned a sheet to complete with the reading and some comprehension questions. Students also worked with introducing themselves and have been learning new songs. The assessment will be Tuesday or Wednesday next week. Students will need to be able to have either part of the conversation below so it sounds natural. They also have a packet of dialogues where this dialogue is located. Students were also introduced to and had time to practice with www.duolingo.com today. Duolingo has an app for Apple and Android devices or can be accessed on the web. It is free. Students will be using Duolingo as part of the curriculum to allow them to progress at their own pace on their own schedule. Duolingo introduces vocabulary and grammar in a context and provides explanations, as well as a chance for students to compete with a Duolingo bot as well as friends (or even family!) through Game Center. Students will have time once a week to use Duolingo in class and will be assigned it as homework once a week on average for 15 minutes. The next assessment after the speaking test will likely be the following week. Students will need to write their own version of the story of el pez dorado y el gato gris using visual prompts. They will have an opportunity to practice in class next week.
