We are off to a great start this week in Spanish 1A. Students have been learning how to introduce themselves,
learning songs, building listening comprehension through a children's story, and working on new vocabulary through various modes, including online practice. Students have begun to show comprehension in Spanish by responding to questions in Spanish in class during instruction and from this week's story. Students may have made a Quizlet account at www.quizlet.com, one of the various options they will have for practicing vocabulary in class. Students will use Quizlet regularly to help practice vocabulary interactively. Quizlet is a website, but also has free apps available. Students should expect homework nightly. Instruction in class will primarily occur in Spanish, with English used to clarify as needed. Students have been adjusting to this well this week. The amount of Spanish used will increase as the month goes on. Please see the class syllabus here.
Students will be working on introductions still this next week, hearing a new story, learning more songs, and more. Homework for Monday/Tuesday is to practice the vocabulary for the new lesson using the Quizlet and Textivate links. Each lesson will typically have a Google Presentation that you and students may access on the class website.
If you should notice that your child is getting frustrated, please have him/her (or you) talk to me as soon as possible so we can work together to help them. The earlier, the better!
